New controller converts I/O data into telecontrol protocols according to IECWAGO is developing a telecontrol controller that converts data from process and telecontrol applications into data according to the telecontrol protocols IEC 60870-5-101 for serial transfer and IEC 60870-5-104 for the TCP/IP-based transfer.
WAGO is adding a telecontrol controller to their I/O System 750 Series. Using the CoDeSys programming tool and implemented library, the controller converts the signals from process and telecontrol applications via the connected I/O modules into data according to the telecontrol protocols IEC 60870-5-101 (serial transmission) and IEC 60870-5-104 (TCP/IP-based transmission). These protocols, together with three other protocols, are defined in the IEC 60870-5 standard family and have become widely established in Europe. They provide a standardized data exchange between the subcontroller and the main control unit as well as between the main control systems. The telecontrol controller can be integrated into the control system both as master or slave. The parameterization of the IEC 60870-5 functionality is performed using a simplified editor within the CoDeSys development environment. Optionally, the telecontrol controller can also be programmed by the user in CoDeSys, which enables PLC functionality and eliminates the need for a separate PLC.
Furthermore, the controller can be extended with I/O modules from the WAGO Series 750/753 for sending and receiving digital and analog I/O signals. Special I/O modules are available for use in hazardous environments of Zones 0 and 1 (EEx i), including digital input modules, digital output modules, 4-20 mA analog input modules, as well as 0-20 mA analog output modules. In addition, an analog input module can be integrated for converting the HART protocol in the fieldbus signal. The telecontrol controller is scheduled for launch at the end of the first quarter 2007. Together with the I/O modules, the WAGO controller forms a versatile and modular I/O system that is especially suited for distributed applications, e.g. in energy and water distribution systems, as well as for process applications.
CoDeSys is the leading hardware independent IEC 61131-3 programming system under Windows for creating controller applications. In the meantime, more than 200 manufacturers are using the CoDeSys development environment, which includes editors for programming in IL (Instruction List), SFC (Sequential Function Chart), FBD (Function Block Diagram), ST (Structured Text) and LD (Ladder Diagram) and CFC (Continuous Function Chart).
